Google and Lazada team up to help online sellers skill up for the year-end mega sales

Search engine giant, Google has collaborated with regional eCommerce player, Lazada to offer free online training courses to equip online sellers with digital skills to help prepare their businesses for the busy holiday shopping season.

According to Google, the free online short courses will be provided by Lazada University. There will also be interactive mini courses via the Google Primer app can be accessed through the Grow with Google site. The training courses are set to cover a broad range of topics that include business strategy and digital marketing. They are also crafted to help address any barriers of entry retailers may face when starting an online shop.

Lazada’s merchants may access the co-created content directly on the Lazada University portal. They can also participate in sessions conducted by Google experts that are live-streamed on the Lazada University website.

Google Singapore’s country director Ben King said, “eCommerce has become an integral part of daily life for millions of Southeast Asians, and with more people shopping from home, we want to empower small businesses with the skills to thrive in this online environment.”

King said Google is committed to training 3 million SME workers in Southeast Asia on digital skills. To date, Google said they have already provided training to 2 million individuals.

“We’re excited to partner with Lazada as they share their expertise and help us extend our support across to thousands of merchants on their platform,” he added.

Lazada’s regional head of seller growth and engagement Jon Chin said the partnership with Google comes just at the right time with the year-end mega shopping festivals like 11.11 and 12.12 just around the corner.

“Given that in the past year, we have seen an online migration of sellers onto our platform, we expect that this initiative can support many SMEs across the region to transition effortlessly into digital commerce,” he said.
