COVID-19: New cases jump to 1,054 today, 12 new deaths reported

Malaysia has recorded 1,054 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 34,393. There are 12 new deaths reported in Sabah which is a new record high. The death toll is now 263.

The Ministry of Health has reported 875 new recoveries and a total of 23,995 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 69.8% while the mortality rate is now 0.8%.

There are currently 10,135 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 94 are in ICU while 32 require respiratory support.

Out of the 1,054 new COVID-19 cases today, 14 are imported while 1,040 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consist of individuals returning from South Korea (4), Japan (2), the Philippines (2), Uzbekistan (1), China (1), Hong Kong (1), Nepal (1), United Kingdom (1) and Maldives (1).

In terms of local cases, Sabah recorded the most cases at 678, followed by Selangor with 124 cases, Labuan with 81 cases and Negeri Sembilan with 71 cases, Penang with 35 cases and Sarawak with 21 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 2 new clusters today. This include Cergas cluster in Seremban and Permatang cluster which covers Kulim, Seberang Perai Tengah and Timur Laut.

A total of 38 active clusters have recorded new cases today. The Rumah Merah cluster in Kota Kinabalu recorded the most with 229 cases, followed by Kepayan Prison cluster with 44 cases, Kaya cluster with 34 cases and Saguking cluster with 33 cases.
