Personally, I had one of my friends record their own voice navigation guide with Waze’s voice recorder option—as an alternative to the generic guides provided by the app. But if you’d like a celebrity flair to your journey, Dato’ Yasmin Yusuff is one of the two official voice options for Bahasa Malaysia.
Dato’ Yasmin Yusuff is no stranger to voice-related media. The former Miss Universe Malaysia was a radio presenter for Radio 4, and could be heard over dozens of radio and TV ads over the years.
“I tend to get frustrated with the mispronunciation of our street names and thought—why not do something and voice them myself? As I happen to be a professional voiceover artist, and also the original voice of the LRT, I thought it would be fun to do Waze too! All it took was for me to offer my voice in the Waze Malaysia Facebook group, and before I knew it, I was contacted, did an audition tape, and voila—I’m the Bahasa voice of Waze!” Yasmin shared.
If Malaysia’s most iconic voice isn’t your cup of tea, may I suggest Batman or the Riddler? They’re available as English language options, however they are only available until the 31 October 2020.
