COVID-19: New record high with 1,240 cases today, 927 reported in Sabah

Malaysia has recorded 1,240 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 27,805. There are 7 new deaths reported in Sabah and the death toll is now 236.

The Ministry of Health has reported 691 new recoveries and a total of 17,825 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 64.11% while the mortality rate is now 0.85%.

There are currently 9,744 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 94 patients are in ICU while 31 require respiratory support.

Out of the 1,240 new cases today, 2 are imported while 1,238 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consist of two individuals arriving from Ukraine and Russian respectively.

Sabah continues to record the most with 927 new cases today, followed by Selangor with 177 cases. A total of 500 new cases reported today are from the Kepayan, Seberang Perai and Tapah prison clusters.

The Ministry of Health has identified 3 new clusters today located in Sabah, Negeri Sembilan and Perak. The new Kapor cluster in Sabah has a total of 46 cases while the Hampar cluster in Negeri Sembilan has 5 positive cases. There’s also a new Tapah prison cluster in Batang Padang, Perak which currently has 11 positive cases detected.

A total of 36 active COVID-19 clusters have reported new cases today. The Kepayan prison cluster in Sabah recorded the most with 439 new cases, followed by the Seberang Perai prison cluster with 57 cases and Jaya cluster with 46 new cases. Today marks a new record high for new daily cases and it is the second time Malaysia reported 4 digit figures.
