COVID-19: 1,228 new cases today, new record high in Malaysia

Malaysia has recorded 1,228 new COVID-19 cases today which is a new record high. This brings the total number of infections to 25,742. There are 7 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 221.

The Ministry of Health has reported 671 new recoveries and a total of 16,555 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 64.31% while the mortality rate is now 0.86%.

There are currently 8,966 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 92 are in ICU while 31 require respiratory support.

Out of the 1,228 new cases today, 11 are imported while 1,217 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consist of 5 individuals returning from Singapore, 3 from Indonesia, 2 from China and 1 from the United Arab Emirates.

In terms of local cases, Sabah recorded the most with 889 new cases today, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 96 cases. Both Kedah and Selangor recorded 76 new cases each.

The Ministry of Health has identified 6 new clusters today which include Mesra and Megah clusters in Sandakan, Sabah. Other clusters include Kaya cluster which covers Seremban and Putrajaya, Bah Kayu cluster which covers Gombak and Titiwangsa, Baki cluster in Kuching, Sarawak and Kempas cluster which covers Kulai and Johor Bahru.

In terms of active clusters, the Kepayan cluster recorded the most with 434 new cases. This is followed by the Tembok cluster which covers Kedah and Perak with an additional 75 new cases. In the Klang Valley, the Auto cluster has recorded 9 new cases, bringing the total to 97, while the Utama cluster has 7 new cases and it now has a total of 214 positive cases to date.
