The OnePlus 8T has landed in Malaysia, priced from RM2,699

OnePlus fans, wait no longer—the OnePlus 8T has been announced for Malaysia! As discussed during the global launch, there won’t be an Ultra model (or even a Pro model), and the 8T will be the only model available under the company’s latest flagship series.

So, what are you getting in Malaysia? Here’s everything you need to know.

Price and availability

The OnePlus 8T will be available in two colours: Lunar Silver and Aquamarine Green, although this will depend on the variant you’ve selected. You’ll be able to choose from two memory configurations, starting from 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Full pricing for Malaysia is as follows:

OnePlus 8T (Lunar Silver) – 8GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM2,699
OnePlus 8T (Aquamarine Green) – 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM2,999

Online sales will begin exclusively on Lazada via the Fans First Sale on the 28th of October 2020, 12am (MYT). Meanwhile, the OnePlus 8T will be available at physical OnePlus authorised dealers from the 31st of October 2020.

Additionally, there will also be a pop-up event during the 11th of November 2020 on Lazada, where you’ll get additional accessories included for a total price of RM2,999. However, only 250 sets will be available, and you’ll need to make the purchase between 12am–2am on 11.11.

Specs

The OnePlus 8T uses a 6.55″ Fluid AMOLED Display pushing a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels (402ppi), and 120Hz refresh rate. This means that the 8T is the first non-Pro model to come from the company with this refresh rate, with the standard OnePlus 8 only featuring a 90hz refresh rate. Particularly useful for gamers, you also get a 240Hz touch sampling rate.

The Fluid Display is flat, although OnePlus says that they’ve gone with a “flexible” screen to achieve a thinner, lighter profile, and wider viewing angles. Additionally, this is rated for a max brightness of 1,100 nits, with HDR10+ support.

Meanwhile, the OnePlus 8T is powered by the Snapdragon 865, which is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS3.1 storage. This also means that 5G connectivity is supported, while this is a WiFi 6-compatible device.

Charging is also improved, with the 8T featuring the fastest charging speeds ever seen on a OnePlus phone. Warp Charge 65 supports 65W fast-charging for the 4,500mAh battery,—yes, you’ll be getting the charger in the box. What’s also interesting is that you can use the adapter to charge PD-supported devices at up to 45W.

On the back, there is a quad-camera setup comprising a 48MP main shooter with a Sony IMX586 sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide angle lens with a 123-degree field of view, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP monochrome lens. Up front, a 16MP selfie camera sits in a single hole-punch cutout on the display.

OnePlus also talks a lot about the in-hand feel of the OnePlus 8T, with a weight of 188g and a thickness of 8.4mm. According to them, the finish of the phone should feel similar to the Silk White version of the original OnePlus (One), and it should also be fairly resistant to fingerprints.

Finally, the OnePlus 8T will ship with Android 11 out of the box via OxygenOS 11. OnePlus says that this is the first smartphone next to the new Google Pixel to come with the latest Android software update at launch, so this is a significant move.
