Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS: Basically a prettier face

Alongside the Huawei Mate 40 trio, the Chinese smartphone giant also launched the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS. This is part of their ongoing limited edition series of smartphones designed by Porsche Design, and this new one isn’t particularly different under the hood.

It’s incredibly similar to the Huawei Mate 40 Pro+, featuring the same 6.76″ AMOLED display with the super curved edges. It also has a resolution of 2772×1344 pixels and the 90Hz refresh rate alongside a 240Hz touch sampling rate.

On the inside, it is also powered by a Kirin 9000 5G processor, but this time it’s mated to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. There’s also a 4,400 mAh battery with support for 66W Huawei SuperCharge fast-charging plus 50W fast wireless charging.

For photography, it also packs a penta camera system. This is led by the 50MP Ultra Vision wide angle camera, and is supported by the 20MP Cine ultra-wide angle camera, a 12MP telephoto camera (3X optical zoom) as well as an 8MP SuperZoom camera (10X optical zoom) plus a 3D Depth Sensing camera. The only difference here is that at the back, the Mate 40 RS also has an Infrared Thermo-Sensor that can detect temperatures between -20 degrees Celsius to 100 degrees Celsius.

Up front, it also comes with a dual-camera setup with a 13MP Ultra Vision selfie shooter alongside a 3D Depth Sensing camera.

That said, the new Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS does come with a rather unique design—as is expected. Rather than the rounded camera module, this device has a more angular shape to its camera hump. Plus, there are stripes down the back of the phone that give it that race-y feel. What’s more, it also comes with a special leather case in either red or black, and the phone comes in two colours: Ceramic White and Ceramic Black.

The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS is priced at EUR 2,295 (~RM11,249) in Europe, but there’s no word on if or when this device will make it into Malaysia.
