The new and improved DJI Pocket 2 goes on sale in Malaysia from RM1,549

The DJI Pocket 2 has just been announced, with DJI looking to build on the success of the DJI Osmo Pocket with a couple of upgrades—including tweaks that should offer better video and audio performance. As expected, the Pocket 2 features a similar design to the Osmo Pocket, with a small camera mounted onto a grip via a three-axis gimbal.

However, the Pocket 2 comes with a couple of features that should improve video and audio performance. One of the common gripes regarding the Osmo Pocket was the audio, and DJI has responded by equipping four microphones (from two) on the Pocket 2, along with a larger 1/1.7″ image sensor and a lens that offers a wider field of view.

This improved audio should be a significant improvement. DJI says that the microphones are strategically placed so that your hands won’t block them, with features like Audio Zoom and Directional Audio helping to pick up more detail when recording videos.

Just like the first Osmo Pocket, you’ll also be able to use an Android or iOS phone as a preview screen and a control centre. What’s also interesting in the new modular design on the DJI Pocket 2. Now, users will be able to remove the base plate and attach supported accessories, which should offer vloggers and creators more flexibility with when using the camera.

Some of the accessories that you can use with the Pocket 2 include a “Do-It-All” Handle comprising a tripod base, WiFi and Bluetooth module, speaker, 3.5mm jack, and a wireless microphone receiver. Other compatible accessories include an extension rod, wide angle lens, and even waterproof housing. This basically gives you the option to use the DJI Pocket 2 as a standalone camera, or one that you can use alongside a connected smartphone (wired/wireless). Of course, you can use the DJI Mimo app to shoot and edit (and share) your videos and photos.

DJI promises up to 140 minutes on a single charge, and at a weight of just 117g (1g more than the Osmo Pocket), this should still prove to be a handy, slip-in-your-pocket tool or vloggers and creators everywhere. HDR video recordings are now supported, while you can shoot at a max video resolution of 4K 60 fps.

If that piques your interest, the DJI Pocket 2 is now available for pre-order, with full availability to begin from the 1st of November 2020 at DJI authorised retailers, Shopee, and Lazada. Two bundles are available, with official pricing as follows:

DJI Pocket 2 (includes Mini Control Stick and tripod mount (1/4″) – RM1,549
DJI Pocket 2 Creator Combo – RM2,169

For the Creator Combo, you’re getting an included Mini Control Stick, tripod mount (1/4″), wide angle lens, wireless microphone + windscreen, Do-It-All Handle, and Micro Tripod.
