What I rarely ever think about is how hard it must be for the elderly and people who aren’t able to use or have smartphones, especially when they are required for you to scan MySejahtera QR codes. But for 80-year-old uncle Gan Hwee Loon, he’s found a perfect solution to speed the registration process before he enters a store.
Usually, if you don’t have a smartphone to scan the QR code before you enter a store, there would still be a log book and pen for you to write down your name and telephone number. However, takes a longer time to do, it’s not as hygienic, and it is a hard process especially for people who have poor eyesight like Mr. Gan.
To solve his problem, Mr. Gan ordered a personal stamp which can stamp his name and telephone number. He can use it to quickly add his details in a store logbook.
Mr. Gan, who lives in Kampung Sungai Sayong, Kluang, said that because of his poor eyesight he found it difficult to write his details by himself. He also said that it was hard for him to ask others to write for him—so he spent RM20 to make himself the stamp.
“I just bring it around with me all the time, to makan, to ‘yumcha’ and also for shopping. I just need to press the chop on the book, which is very convenient and it saves my time,” he said.

There is also Selangkad—a card with a unique QR code that lets store owners scan the card whenever a person with disabilities enters the store. However, they’re only made for people with disabilities, not the elderly.
