COVID-19: 862 cases today, 673 in Sabah and 132 in Selangor

Malaysia has recorded 862 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 22,225. Today marks the 4th straight day of recording over 800 new cases daily. There are 3 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 193.

The Ministry of Health has reported 634 new recoveries and a total of 14,351 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 64.57% while the mortality rate is now 0.87%.

There are currently 7,681 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 95 are in ICU while 29 require respiratory support.

Out of the 862 new cases today, 860 are imported while 2 are transmitted locally. Sabah has the most number of cases with 673, followed by Selangor with 132 cases, Kedah with 17 cases and Perak with 9 cases.

The Ministry has also identified 1 new Kertang cluster in Kota Belud, Sabah today which has accumulated 21 positive cases. Among the total active clusters at the moment, the Kapayan prison cluster recorded the most with 231 new clusters, followed by Hentian cluster with 42 new cases.

According to the Ministry of Health, the Utama cluster is currently the largest in Selangor with a total of 194 positive cases recorded so far. It also added that a third of new cases in Selangor are from cases involving individuals that have recently returned from Sabah. Meanwhile, the remaining 2/3 are from community infections. This is due to the high-density and high movement rate in Selangor.

Out of the 87 active clusters at the moment, 32 from the Klang Valley. 13 clusters are connected to cases with a recent travel history to Sabah.
