Malaysia has recorded 629 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 18,758. There are 6 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 176.
The Ministry of Health has reported 245 new recoveries and a total of 12,259 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 65.35% while the mortality rate is 0.94%.
There are currently 6,323 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 99 patients are in ICU while 31 require respiratory support.
Out of the 629 new cases today, 2 are imported while 627 are transmitted locally. Sabah records the most cases at 489, followed by Selangor with 50 cases, Pulau Pinang with 33 cases, Labuan with 19 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 10 cases and Perak with 9 cases.
From 20th September until 16th October, there are a total of 437 positive cases detected with a recent travel history to Sabah.
The Ministry has also identified 3 new clusters today. This includes Merbok cluster in Selangor, Buntar cluster which covers Kedah, Perak and Putrajaya and Lekir cluster in Perak.
Sabah continues to record 3 digit number of new daily cases and it currently has 12 red zones. 260 new cases reported in Sabah today are from close contact screening. Meanwhile, Selangor currently has a total of 5 red zones and 18 new cases are reported from the Petaling district.
