If this Garuda Indonesia aircraft can wear a mask, then so can you

Garuda Indonesia painted a special mask-themed design on one of its Airbus A330-900 Neo. The design is in support of a campaign which aims to curb the spread of the COVID-19 infection in the country.

The design includes a pretty batik-themed blue face mask covering the nose of the plane. One the side of the aircraft reads “Ayo Pakai Masker”—the motto of Indonesia’s mask campaign.

“It took 60 people and 120 hours to put the surgical mask onto the aircraft. This is to encourage wearing face masks,” wrote Gamuda in their tweet.

The airline’s president and chief executive officer Irfan Setiaputra also called for designers and artists to join an online contest and get their artwork painted on at least four more aircrafts. In the tweet below, he gave a prize to designer Jailani Sidik—who designed the current one. Click here to learn more about their contest.

This newly-painted aircraft will mainly serve domestic routes, as well as international flights to Singapore and Japan. A quick check on Garuda’s website shows that international flights are still limited.

In September, it was reported that Indonesians caught without a mask are forced to dig graves for COVID-19 victims. There are currently more than 337,000 total cases and 11,935 deaths in Indonesia.
