Malaysia has reported 660 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 16,880. There are 4 new deaths today in Sabah and the overall death toll is now 163.
The Ministry of Health has reported 350 new recoveries and a total of 11,372 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 67.37% while the mortality rate is 0.97%.
There are currently 5,345 active COVID-19 cases which are isolated and receiving treatment. 101 are in ICU while 32 require respiratory support.
Out of the 660 cases today, 2 are imported while 658 are transmitted locally. Sabah has the most number of cases with 443, followed by Selangor with 76 cases and Kedah with 60 cases.
There are 6 new clusters identified today with 4 (Semarak, Bina, Sabindo, Bestari) in Sabah, 1 (Bah Kenangan) in Selangor and 1 (Penjara Jawi) in Penang. The Ministry has updated that a total of 394 cases since 22nd September have a recent travel history to Sabah. There are currently a total of 23 clusters throughout Malaysia where the index patient has recently returned from Sabah.
At 660 cases, today marks the second highest daily count of new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia. Malaysia has been recording more than 250 new cases daily since 1st October 2020. To curb the spread of the disease, CMCO has been declared for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya starting tomorrow while Sabah’s statewide CMCO has come into force starting today.
