TM employees in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu tested positive for COVID-19

Telekom Malaysia has announced that two of its employees have been tested positive for COVID-19. One employee is based at Menara TM One in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur and the other is an employee at the Kepayan office in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Both are currently isolated and receiving treatment at Government quarantine and medical facilities.

TM has taken additional proactive measures to minimise the risk of infection and to keep its customers, staff and communities safe. The TM One building has been immediately evacuated and the building will be closed for 7 days for disinfection and sanitisation which is done according to Ministry of Health’s (MOH) guidelines. TM offices in Sabah, Kedah and other red zones have been closed much earlier as a proactive precaution following the recent increase in new COVID-19 cases.

A detailed contact tracing exercise is being carried out by the MOH with support from TM’s COVID-19 Crisis Response Team (CRT) to identify and inform individuals that have made close contact with affected employees. Those identified as close contacts will be contacted by MOH for further advice and action.

To ensure continuity of business, TM has reverted back to Work from Home (WFH) arrangements for employees at all affected states and areas. Employees with critical functions such as contact centre, field teams for service installation and restoration shall continue working in compliance with the Government and TM’s added safety protocols and guidelines.

TM has also reminded everyone to keep safe social distancing, good hygiene and adhere to the SOPs at all times. The broadband and telecommunications infrastructure provider has emphasised that it has taken and will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure the health and safety of their customers, employees and the community.

During the early phase of the MCO, there were 8 positive cases among TM’s employees and fortunately all of them have been recovered. Malaysia is currently facing 3rd wave of infections and has been recording over 250 cases daily in the month of October.

1 Utama Shopping Centre in Bandar Utama had recently announced a 7-day shutdown as ordered by the Ministry of Health and the National Security Council. All mall and tenant employees will undergo COVID-19 testing and contact tracing is currently underway.
