It was reported that the Royal Malaysian Police has opened an investigation paper on those behind Mgag‘s Facebook account for allegedly mocking Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. This was revealed by Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director DCP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid following a report that was lodged in Senawang, Seremban.

He told Bernama that investigations are underway and those involved will be called to testify. The case is being investigated according to Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications Act 1998.

On Tuesday evening, Mgag was alleged to have published a post titled “DG Hisham doing live broadcast from quarantine” with an edited image of him without pants on. Dr Noor Hisham had continued to provide COVID-19 updates via Facebook live on the same evening despite undergoing home quarantine. This was right before Muhyiddin Yassin made his special address to the nation on the COVID-19 situation.

After receiving backlash from the public, Mgag had deleted the post and issued an apology on their Facebook page. However, several users managed to screenshot the image and continued to share it online.

Mgag clarified that the edited image of DG Hisham working from home was not meant to disrespect him and they wanted to inject some humour to a tense situation. Malaysia had recorded a new record high of 691 new COVID-19 cases on 6th October.

The Health DG had attended a special National Security Council meeting on Saturday which Religious Affair Minister Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad was present. The Minister was recently tested positive for COVID-19 and several cabinet ministers and top officials including the Prime Minister had to self isolate at home as a safety precaution.

Several months ago, a 57-year-old retiree was fined for insulting Health Minister Dr Adham Baba on Facebook. He was charged for making insulting remarks against the Minister on 31st March and was fined RM2,000 after taking into account that the post wasn’t overboard and malicious in nature.
