Muhyiddin Yassin under home quarantine after being in close contact with COVID-19 case

Malaysia Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has confirmed that the Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad had attended the special National Security Council meeting which he chaired last Saturday. As revealed this afternoon, Dr Zulkifli was tested positive and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Seremban.

Based on the risk assessment by the Ministry of Health, all close contacts during the meeting were given a Home Surveillance Order (HSO) which require them to wear a wristband and placed under home quarantine for 14 days starting 3rd October 2020.

Non-close contact attendees are advised to self quarantine for 14 days until the 16th of October. They are also urged to conduct self-health monitoring at home daily with the home assessment tool (HAT) in the MySejahtera app.

The Prime Minister added that he will complete his home quarantine at his own residence for 14 days as advised by the Ministry of Health. He assured that this latest development would not interfere with his official government duties. He will continue to work from home and will attend meetings via video conferencing.

As an added safety measure, Muhyiddin said that he has taken COVID-19 swab tests every two weeks since April 2020 and all tests have so far returned negative. He shared that he has tested for COVID-19 three times in the past 3 weeks including 22nd, 26th and 29th September, and the results have returned negative.

Apart from Muhyiddin, other top ministers were also present at the National Security Council meeting. This includes Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Dr Radzi Jidin, Dr Adham Baba and Health DG Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad had recently travelled to Sabah in late September and he visited Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran for a day trip. He urged anyone that have been in close contact with him between 24th September to 4th October, to go for a checkup at the nearest health clinic.

Malaysia has reported a new record high of 432 new COVID-19 cases today. This brings the total number of infections to 12,813. There are now 2,336 active cases remaining and 32 patients are in ICU.
