Proton X50 bookings hit 20,000 in two weeks

The Proton X50 is probably the most anticipated SUV of the year and it is expected to launch very soon. Just two weeks after Proton open the order books, the car marker has revealed that it has received 20,000 bookings. Even before the SUV is launched, Proton says that the bookings have already exceeded expectations.

From the looks of it, there’s going to be a huge backlog for the X50 as Proton aims to sell 4,000 units this year and they are increasing production to 8,000 units until the end of the year.

Commenting on the response, Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah said “Proton would like to thank all its customers for the tremendous interest shown in the Proton X50. We are pushing to ensure fulfilment over the last three months of 2020, while continuing to emphasise product quality”

Fourth consecutive month of sales growth

Proton has recorded its fourth consecutive month of positive year-on-year sales growth as they have sold 11,935 units in September. Sales for September grew by 4.9% over August and 33.6% over the same month in 2019.

From January until September 2020, Proton has sold 73,607 units which is 4.3% more than last year. Proton is now #2 in Malaysia’s automotive sales with an estimated market share of 21.6%..

The Proton X70 still leads the SUV segment and it has posted its second best month of 2020 with 2,849 units sold. The Proton Persona and Proton Exora are still the best selling models in its class and are set to be the overall sales winner for the full year. The Proton Saga is still their most popular model of the lineup with 4,949 units sold in September and it’s the 2nd highest volume A-segment sedan.

If you’re interested in the Proton X50, you can place a booking fee of RM500 at your nearest dealer. You can learn more about the new compact SUV in our latest video below:
