The upcoming Proton X50 has been awarded a five-star safety rating by the Asean NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries) rating following a recent assessment. According to its website, details of the results will be released soon.
The X50 joins other 5-star rated cars in Asean NCAP’s list that include the Proton X70 (2018), Honda City (2020), Isuzu D-Max (2020), Toyota C-HR (2018) and Honda Accord (2019).
Looking at the Asean NCAP’s database, the X50 has a higher safety rating than the Honda HRV (2015) which has a four-star rating.
Based on the test conducted by Asean NCAP, they look at different safety aspects of the car such as adult and child occupant protection as well as the available safety assist technology on the vehicle.
The national automotive company’s latest SUV is stated be available in four variants – 1.5T Standard, 1.5T Executive, 1.5T Premium and 1.5 TGDi Flagship. There will also be an option for two engine options: the 1.5L T engine that pushes 150PS (148hp) and 226Nm of torque and the 1.5L TGDi that outputs at a higher 177PS (175hp) and 255Nm of torque.
In terms of safety features, the base model will come with 4 SRS airbags while the Executive variant on wards will get 6 SRS airbags.
The Flagship variant will come with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that incorporates Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Proton still has not revealed the pricing details or actual launch date of the SUV, those eager to be among the first in the country to own the X50 can place a deposit of RM500.
