COVID-19: New cases drop to 89 today, only Melaka and Putrajaya reported no case

Malaysia has recorded 89 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections of 11,224. Unfortunately, there are 2 new deaths today which are reported in Kedah and Sabah. Malaysia’s COVID-19 death toll is now 136.

The Ministry of Health has recorded 28 new recoveries today and a total of 9,967 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 88.80% while the mortality rate is 1.21%.

There are currently 1,121 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 16 patients are in ICU while 3 require respiratory support.

Out of the 89 cases today, 3 are imported while 86 are transmitted locally. The imported cases are all foreigners with 2 individuals arriving from Netherlands and 1 from Indonesia.

According to the Ministry, Sabah records the most with 35 cases, followed by Kedah with 13 cases, Selangor with 10 cases, Johor with 8 cases and Sarawak with 4 cases. All states and territories have reported a case except for Melaka and Putrajaya.

The Ministry added that 25 local cases have a recent travel history to Sabah. There are now 88 such cases from 20th to 30th September 2020.

A new Tembok cluster has been identified in Alor Setar, Kedah. The index patient is a case that passed away today. Two close contacts were found positive and 169 individuals have been screened. 166 are still awaiting results.

The Bangau-bangau cluster has 9 new cases followed by 4 new cases at the Benteng cluster. The Bakawali cluster in Johor records 7 new case while the Sungai cluster in Kedah has 1 new case.
