Mercedes-Benz recently introduced its new GLB range of compact SUVs and included a sportier AMG variant called the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic. Packing more power and a sportier design, the GLB 35 4Matic is the most powerful version of the GLB on the market but it misses out on one feature found on the non-AMG variants.
Unlike the GLB 200 and GLB 250, the GLB 35 does not come with a third-row. This means you can only accommodate up to five occupants instead of seven like on the non-AMG variants. But if you value performance over seating capacity, the GLB 35 may be what you are looking for.
Based on the AMG Line, the new GLB 35 4Matic is distinguished by its Panamericana front grille, used for the first time in a 35-series model. All around the exterior there are recognisable AMG elements such as a prominent rear apron with two, round exhaust tips and an AMG roof spoiler.
The GLB 35 4Matic rides on 20” AMG 5-twin-spoke light-allot wheels painted in tantalite grey. The silver brake callipers and black AMG lettering at the front provide further visual highlights.
Under the hood lies the GLB 35’s 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that is paired with an AMG Speedshift 8G dual-clutch transmission (DCT). As the name denotes, it runs on an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system. Mercedes said the transmission offers fast gear shifts and a sporty driving style. But if you are looking for a relaxed long-distance drive, the compact SUV also comes with comfort-oriented gear shifts too.
In terms of performance, the engine is rated at 306hp and 400Nm of torque. It has an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h and sprints from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.2 seconds. The engine output is similar to the Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic but the GLB 35 is slower by just 0.5 seconds.
Taking a look inside, there is no mistaking this vehicle is part of the AMG family with its visually underlined interior that comes with sports seats upholstered in black Artico man-made leather and Dinamica microfibre, Nappa leather steering wheel, carbon-structure trim and AMG floor mats.
Apart from that, you also get the Mercedes-Benz Experience (MBUX) infotainment system that consists of two 10.25” screens with AMG-specific delays supplemented with a Burmester surround sound system. It also comes with an LTE module for Mercedes me connected services. Moreover, it comes with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For all around comfort in the cabin, the GLB 35 offers thermotronic dual-zone climate control with rear vents and powered front seats with memory function.
Not forgetting safety features, you get a reverse camera along with Active Parking Assist with Parktronic. Other features include blind spot assist, remote engine start a tyre pressure monitoring system and active lane keeping assist, which is not present on the non-AMG GLBs.
