The new 5.4” iPhone might be called the iPhone 12 mini

It appears that the model names of the new iPhone 12 series have been leaked. According to leakster l0vetodream, whose leaks have been accurate in the past, the new line up will be called the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

It is worth noting that this is the first time Apple is using the “mini” name for the iPhone. The company has previously used the naming convention for some of its other products including the Mac mini and iPad mini.

We know from earlier leaks that the new iPhone 12 is supposed to come in four models: a new 5.4″ iPhone, two 6.1″ iPhone models and one 6.7″ iPhone that will succeed the current iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The two higher-end “Pro” models: the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max are expected to come with a triple-camera setup with an additional LiDAR scanner that’s similar to the latest iPad Pro.

But if you are not a big fan of large phones, the new 5.4″ model is said to be smaller than the iPhone SE according to EveryApplePro.

All of the new iPhone models are expected be powered by Apple’s in-house developed A14 chip and will come with support for 5G networks. The entire lineup is said to use 60Hz displays instead of the higher-refresh rate ProMotion displays, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Reports suggest that Apple is aiming to keep the price of the iPhone 12 by removing accessories such as the power brick and wired Earpods. Kuo presumes that this would reduce the size of the iPhone 12’s packaging, lowering the Cupertino company’s freight costs.

Apple delayed the launch of the iPhone 12, which normally is revealed during its annual September event, due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year. The tech giant still held an event on 15 September though it announced the iPad Air 2020, Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE. All eyes are on Apple to hold a second media event in October to reveal the much anticipated iPhone 12.
