Specs

According to Garmin, the Forerunner 745 is designed with a smaller form-factor that will suit both male and female ahtletes, with smaller wrist sizes for a better fit. At 47g, the watch is also lightweight enough to use on runs, rides, or swims—just like Garmin’s other Forerunner-branded wearables.

Battery life is rated for up to one week in smartwatch mode, up to 16 hours in GPS mode, and up to 6 hours in GPS mode with music playback. Those who have used Garmin smartwatches in the past should be familiar with the 1.2″ transflective Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) display, which helps to conserve power, and offers wide viewing angles—especially under sunlight.

Like most recent Garmin watches, you’ll also be getting SpO2 monitoring and stress monitoring, along with VO2 Max and Training Effect readings via Garmin-owned Firstbeat Analytics. Additionally, the Forerunner 745 will also send you daily workout suggestions for running and cycling based on your current training load and VO2 max readings.

As mentioned, Garmin’s latest sports watch also features a triathlon mode—in addition to pool swimming, track running, and swimming. Individual activities can also be switched during multi-workouts (such as triathlons) and brick sessions by simply clicking on a button, too. As expected, you get 5ATM water resistance, which is good for pressures equivalent to a depth of 50m, and Garmin says that this will offer protection against splashes, rain/snow, showering, swimming, diving into water, and snorkelling,

The Forerunner 745 also sports offline-music playback—up to 500 tracks, supposedly. You can choose to load MP3s onto the unspecified onboard storage of the watch, or you can use supported streaming services such as Spotify or Deezer to download offline playlists for future playback from the watch.

Like all of Garmin’s smartwatches, you an sync your workouts via Garmin Connect, while training apps such as TrainingPeaks and TrainerRoad are also compatible with the Forerunner 745. Garmin Coach is also supported, with free training plans for runners provided by running coaches. Finally, you’ll also have access to Garmin’s well-known Body Battery energy monitor feature, along with a PulseOx sensor, and even menstrual tracking.
