The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is launching this coming Wednesday, 23rd September at 10PM Malaysian time. This appears to be an “affordable” variant of the Galaxy S20 series and Samsung has officially confirmed some of its key features in its latest teaser video.
According to the teaser, Samsung had asked its biggest fans “What excites you most about Galaxy and the performance you love” and apparently, real Galaxy fans want smooth screen refresh rate, a huge battery, IP68 dust and water resistance as well as support for 5G. It appears that these features are exactly what you can expect from the upcoming Fan Edition.
Ahead of the launch, serial leakster Roland Quandt has dropped more details of the upcoming S20 Fan Edition. He has confirmed that the new Galaxy S20 series device will feature a 6.5″ Full HD+ Super AMOLED display that pushes a 120Hz refresh rate.
In Europe, the device will come in two variants – a Snapdragon 865 with 5G or an Exynos 990 with 4G. Both are listed with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 of storage, with the option to expand via microSD card.
In the camera department, the rear is expected to feature a triple-camera setup featuring a 12MP f/1.8 main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera with OIS. For selfies, the centre-aligned punch-hole houses a 32MP front camera.
Despite being a “affordable” phone, it will feature IP68 dust and water resistance, wireless charging and a huge 4,500mAh battery that also charges via USB-C. The device is also listed with NFC and it also supports WiFi 6.
According to Roland, the device will be priced at EUR 699 (about RM3,405) for the Exynos version and EUR 799 (about RM3,892) for the Snapdragon 5G variant. As a comparison, below are the current prices of the Galaxy S20 in Germany:
Galaxy S20 – EUR 599
Galaxy S20 5G – EUR 799
Galaxy S20+ – EUR 789
Galaxy S20+ 5G – EUR 879
Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G – EUR 1,049
From the looks of it, the Fan Edition is priced somewhere between the Galaxy S20 and S20+ version, and it is significantly more expensive than the Galaxy S10+ Lite.
Although the Fan Edition boasts a larger the screen and a bigger battery than the Galaxy S20, the screen appears to be a downgrade as it pushes a maximum resolution of Full HD+. At the moment, the Galaxy S20+ which comes with a 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED 2x display, 128GB storage and a 4,500mah battery still retails for RM3,999 but you can buy it online for as low as RM3,099.
The full details shall be revealed very soon and Malaysia is expected to be among the first wave countries to get the Galaxy S20 FE. To be the first to know, Samsung Malaysia has opened its registration of interest on their website.
