Sony has announced its Xperia 5 II (pronounced as Mark Two) and it’s coming to Malaysia at the end of the year. Apart from packing a similar flagship processor and camera setup as the Xperia 1 II, the new Xperia 5 gets a couple of new features for a smoother gaming experience.
Similar to last year’s Xperia 5 Mark I, the latest Mark II model still retains a 6.1″ Full HD+ OLED display that comes in a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor that supports 5G as well as WiFi 6. It has 8GB of RAM and 256GB UFS storage which is expandable via microSD card.
For the first time on a Sony smartphone, the Xperia 5 II features a high 120Hz screen refresh rate and a 240Hz touch scanning rate. For an even smoother and blur-free gaming experience, the device also gets a 240Hz Motion Blur Reduction enhancer feature which claims to provide the equivalent visual effect of a 240Hz refresh rate. This is achieved by inserting a black frame in between each frame. The feature was introduced on the Xperia I II where the Motion Blur Reduction feature claims to provide a 90Hz like visual experience on a standard 60Hz screen.
In terms of cameras, it still gets a triple camera setup that consists of a 12MP main shooter with a 1/1.7″ Exmor RS sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 12MP telephoto camera. Meanwhile, the front gets an 8MP selfie shooter.
Like its bigger flagship, it can also support continuous burst shooting up to 20fps and also real-time Eye AF for faster focus when taking pictures of humans and animals. The device can also record 4K HDR videos up to 120fps.
The Xperia 5 II still comes with dual stereo speakers and it still has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Powering the device is a 4,000mAh battery and it supports USB-PD fast charging via USB-C. According to Sony, it can get a 50% charge in just 30 minutes. Unlike the Xperia 1, you do not get wireless charging but it still comes with IP68 dust and water resistance.
Sony Malaysia has yet to reveal the Xperia 5 II’s official pricing but the device will be coming to Malaysia from December 2020. It will be available at Sony Stores KLCC & The Curve, Sony Store Online and the Sony flagship store on Lazada. Meanwhile, the larger Xperia 1 II will be available from November 2020.
