Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition to launch next week

Samsung has announced a live stream event that’s happening on the 23rd of September 2020. According to Samsung, this is an Unpacked event for “Every Fan”, which is an indication that the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will be announced soon.

The online event is taking place on the 23rd September at 10pm Malaysian time. From the looks of it, the new budget S20 will be coming to our shores very soon as Samsung Malaysia is now accepting registration of interest on their website.

The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is essentially a new “affordable” flagship of the current S20 series. The last time “Fan Edition” was used was for the “fixed” Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition back in 2017.

A couple of weeks back, we have gotten a clear look of the new phone thanks to leaked renders from Evan Blass through his Patreon account. The device uses a flat display while the rear is curved slightly for a more upmarket look. Unlike the standard Galaxy S20 models, Samsung is adding more colourful options which include light orange, green and purple.

It is speculated that the Fan Edition models will feature a Full HD+ display that pushes a high 120Hz refresh rate. In terms of processor, Samsung is said to offer two different variants with a choice of either a Snapdragon 865 or an Exynos 990.

The device is expected to come with a 32MP punch-hole selfie camera while the rear gets a triple-camera setup that consists of a 12MP main, 12MP ultra-wide-angle and an 8MP telephoto shooter that could do 3x optical zoom. The battery is said to be a 4,500mAh unit which is similar to the current Galaxy S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite.

It was previously reported that the device will compete with the yet to be launched iPhone 12 with a price tag of USD 750 (about RM3,110) but we reckon it should be priced under RM3,000 for the Malaysian market. All shall be revealed next Wednesday, and we expect Samsung Malaysia to reveal pricing and pre-order details shortly after the global launch.
