Malaysia records 45 new cases today which brings the total number of infections to 9,628. Fortunately, there are no new deaths recorded and the death toll currently remains at 128.
The Ministry of Health has reported 24 new recoveries today and a total of 9,167 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 95.21% while the mortality rate is at 1.33%.
There are currently 333 active cases remaining which are currently isolated and receiving treatment. 9 patients are currently in ICU and 5 require respiratory support.
Out of the 45 cases today, there’s only 1 imported case involving a Malaysian returning from Brazil and the remaining 44 cases are transmitted locally. All 40 cases in Sabah are from the Benteng LD cluster which consists of 7 Malaysians and 33 foreigners.
In Kedah, there are 2 cases from the Telaga cluster and there’s 1 case from the Sungai cluster. The remaining 1 case was detected through symptomatic screening.
According to the Ministry of Health, the Benteng LD cluster has a total of 170 confirmed cases out of the 2,679 screened individuals. 1,593 are still waiting for their results. Meanwhile, the Telaga cluster has 13 positive cases out of the 4,673 screened individuals. 90 people from the cluster are still waiting for their results. The Sungai cluster has recorded a total of 40 positive cases. A total of 1,585 people have been screened and 482 are still awaiting results from the cluster.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the Ministry of Health doesn’t rule out the possibility of the D614G mutated strain for both Telaga and Sungai clusters in Kedah. The ministry will receive a confirmation after lab tests by IMR.
