iPhone 12 event could be announced this week

Finally, it’s time for the next iPhone. Well, at least it looks super likely that Apple will be announcing the iPhone 12 launch event this week. And it’s not just going to be the iPhone because we’d probably be seeing new Apple Watch hardware, as well as details on the new iOS 14 and watchOS 7 release schedule.

This comes following a tweet by tech analyst and prolific leaker Jon Prosser which states that an Apple press release has been scheduled for the 8th of September.

He didn’t provide any details on what the press release will contain, and he also adds that this date isn’t locked just yet. But, considering the timing, it does kind of make sense. That said, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that it’s unlikely that we will see actual products or devices, tweeting that it’s far more likely going to be an announcement of when the event will happen.

Naturally, considering the state of things due to the pandemic right now, this will probably be a virtual event like WWDC this year.

This year’s iPhone 12 could finally debut an interesting new design that could also be smaller than the current. We’ve been stuck with roughly the same “all-screen” iPhone since the iPhone X, but several leaks seem to indicate a return to the more squared off design of something like the first iPhone SE. Personally, I’m a big fan of that aesthetic, and it also lines up with the direction Apple’s heading with their new iPad Pros.

However, many may be disappointed if Apple ends up dropping the number of accessories included in the box. This could also include an absence of the charging brick and headphones, forcing their users to either reuse their old accessories or pick up new ones for an additional cost.

Regardless, I’m always interested to see what direction Apple takes with their new iPhones. I just hope I don’t have to sit through one of their horrible ads again.
