COVID-19: Malaysia continues to record 6 new cases today, half are imported

Malaysia records 6 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 9,397. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 128.

The Ministry of Health has reported 2 new recoveries and a total of 9,115 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 97.00% while the mortality rate is 1.36%.

There are now 154 active cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. 6 patients are in ICU with half requiring respiratory support.

Out of the 6 cases today, 3 are imported while 3 are transmitted locally. The imported cases are all foreigners with 2 arriving from Indonesia and 1 from Bangladesh.

In terms of local cases, there are 2 new cases in Sabah from the Benteng LD cluster and 1 case in Pulau Pinang that was detected through severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) screening.

The Benteng LD cluster now has a total of 16 positive cases with 7 in Lahad Datu and 9 in Tawau. A total of 776 individuals have been screened and 434 are still waiting for results.

At the moment, the states and territories of Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan are fully green. The district with the highest number of cases in the past 14 days is Kota Muda, Kedah with 14 cases, followed by Tawau, Sabah with 8 cases and Kota Setar, Kedah with 7 cases.

As of 12pm today, Malaysia has tested over 1.3 million individuals and the positive rate is 0.72%.
