Leaked GoPro Hero 9 Black box reveals 5K support and HyperSmooth 3.0

The GoPro Hero 9 Black appears to be launching very soon and reliable leakster Roland Quandt of WinFuture has dropped more juicy details of the upcoming action camera. Aside from having a front-facing colour display, the Hero 9 appears to offer even greater video capabilities with upgraded specs.

Based on a leaked image of the packaging, the GoPro Hero 9 Black is capable of shooting up to 5K videos at 30fps. Like its predecessor, it could also record 4K60 and 1080p in 240fps. The Hero 9 Black supports 20MP stills and live streaming at 1080p. Similar to the current Hero 8 Black, the camera itself is water resistant up to 33 ft (10 metres).

The biggest enhancement is HyperSmooth 3.0 which should provide even greater gimbal-like stabilisation than the current HyperSmooth 2.0. In addition, there’s also an updated TimeWarp 3.0 time lapse feature.

As seen in the packaging above, GoPro is providing a hard case as well as the basic mounts. According to Roland, the new camera uses a larger 1,720mAh battery which has 41% more capacity than the current 1,220mAh unit on the Hero 8 Black. He added that GoPro will also introduce a new charging dock which can quickly charge two batteries simultaneously.

At the moment, it isn’t clear when the GoPro Hero 9 Black will launch but based on the amount of leaks that have surfaced, it could be any moment now.
