The OnePlus Watch is coming soon

OnePlus appears to be placing more and more of a focus on products for its ecosystem. First, the company announced the OnePlus TV, then the OnePlus Buds were launched alongside the mid-range OnePlus Nord. Now, we’re set to see the company’s first ever smartwatch: the OnePlus Watch.

The OnePlus Watch was first spotted on Singaporean regulatory body IMDA’s official site by 91mobiles, sporting the model number W301GB. Described as a “wearable watch” the OnePlus Nord will be supplied by Sinnopel Device Pte. Ltd.—the same suppliers for products from Oppo and Realme in the region.

However, the listing has since disappeared, as per our own check:

At the moment, we don’t have that much information on the OnePlus Watch—besides the actual name of the wearable. However, XDA reports that we might see the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 under the hood, which would mean that OnePlus’ watch might run on Wear OS.

This isn’t the first time that we’re hearing about a wearable from the Chinese company. However, now that the device appears to have been certified by an official regulatory body—albeit a non-Malaysian one—we do expect to get more details on the OnePlus Watch sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, a strong possibility is that OnePlus launches the smartwatch alongside its next smartphone release. This would be the OnePlus 8T (if that naming scheme continues), although COVID-19-related concerns mean that it’ll be difficult to make guesses on a possible launch date.

If OnePlus decides to go with Wear OS for its first ever smartwatch, there will be notable pros and cons to that decision. Google’s smartwatch platform has been around for a long time now, although Wear OS watches have gone down in popularity over the last few years or so. However, with the recently-launched Snapdragon 4100, who knows? We might see the rise of Google-powered smartwatches again.
