COVID-19: New cases jump to 10 today, 8 are imported

Malaysia has recorded 10 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 9,306. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 125.

The Ministry of Health has reported 36 new recoveries and a total of 9,030 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is 97.03% while the mortality rate is 1.34%.

The number of active cases has dropped to 151 which are currently isolated and receiving treatment. 8 patients are still in ICU with 6 requiring respiratory support.

Out of the 10 cases reported today, 8 are imported while 2 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consist of one Malaysian and 5 foreigners arriving from India, a foreigner arriving from Indonesia and another foreigner arriving from the Philippines.

In terms of local cases, there’s one case involving a Malaysian that was detected via symptomatic screening in Kedah. The other case is a foreigner in Selangor that was screened at a detention centre. There are no new cases reported from existing active clusters today.

The Bukit Jalil detention centre still has the highest number of positive cases at 653, followed by Tawar Cluster at 73 and Sivagangga cluster at 45.

The current recovery movement control order is scheduled to end on the 31st of August 2020. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will address the nation this evening at 8pm to provide an update on the RMCO.
