Dyson launches a lighter vacuum for Asian homes, with the same motor used on the V11

Dyson has revealed the new Digital Slim vacuum, which is both smaller and lighter than the V11. It is also 200 grams lighter than the Dyson V8 Slim, and it’s especially engineered for Asian homes.

“In our latest machine, we set about going even further, seeking to condense our proprietary cleaning technologies, making our lightest machine to date while refusing to sacrifice cleaning performance,” said James Dyson, Founder and Chief Engineer.

Dyson Digital Slim Features

The Digital Slim features the Dyson Hyperdymium motor—the same motor in the V11. The motor spins up to 120,000rpm, creating powerful suction. Its ceramic shaft claiming to be three times harder than steel, with half the density.

The cord-free vacuum is 20% smaller and 30% lighter compared to their V11, and it features a 40% lighter soft roller cleaner head. It weighs 1.9KG, which is more than a full kg lighter than a Dyson V11 series. But even with the smaller size, it can achieve similar pick-up as the V11. The Digital Slim vacuum can filter out 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns while maintaining no loss of suction.

While the V11’s main body is made of two pieces, the Digital Slim vacuum cleaner main body is in one piece. The vacuum’s wand itself is 15% shorter and 6.3mm thinner than the ones from the V11 series.

It’s also intelligent—the Slim has an LCD screen that shows things like cleaning mode, the remaining run-time and even offering filter maintenance reminders and blockage reports. The vacuum has a run-time of up to 40 minutes in eco mode on hard floors, and up to 5 minutes in boost mode.

If you need extra power, you can swap out their removable batteries for charged ones. You can purchase extra batteries to get double the run-time.

When you do need to clean out your vacuum, the brush bar, clear bin, combined pre/post motor filter, and light-up crevice tool are all washable.

How is it Asian home-friendly?

Asian homes—if you really think about it—rarely has much carpeted floors. We walk barefoot in our homes and are more used to hard floors, so Dyson engineers have discovered that hard floors demands superior fine dust pick up.

Asians can also be fairly petite, so a lightweight vacuum is pretty attractive. The Digital Slim additionally has a better grip, as the circumference of its handle has been made smaller—for smaller hands.

The new Dyson Digital Slim Fluffy Extra will be available today. Their price starts at RM2,599, but for their Dyson Digital Slim Fluffy Pro—which also includes extra accessories like the Stubborn Dirt Brush, and the Grab & Go floor dok—is RM2,799.

You can purchase them at their website, or at Dyson Demo Stores at The Gardens Mall and Mid Valley Southkey. If you’re keen on buying the additional battery and charger, you’ll need to buy them separately on the Dyson site, but only in 2021 onwards.
