Panasonic is working on bringing the cubicle office life into your homes—if you’re into that. The idea is to give you a specific work zone, instead of having your work life mixed with the rest of your living quarters.
The cubicle is called the Komoru, and although it’s meant to seem like a regular cubicle it is at least a little prettier. However it costs a whopping JPY88,000 (RM3,486).
The set includes wooden pegboards to easily hang things with, and a matching desk. It’s designed to blend in with your living area and you’ll just need about one square meter of space to set aside for the office.
The Komoru, however, isn’t really meant for total privacy if you’re looking for that. The walls are only 120cm high, or about four feet. While it does give you a little bit of privacy, it might not work if there are other people living in your home and you want space for video conferences.
Panasonic is only selling the Komoru in Japan for now, but working from home is becoming a more common option. Private office spaces that you can add to your own home is a cheaper alternative to converting a separate room into an office—if you even have any rooms to spare.
If you’re currently looking for a free, fast way to feel like you’re at an office you can try a website called imisstheoffice.eu. The site replicates the sounds of being in the office, without actually being back there.
