Asus Zenfone 7 to launch on 26 August, expected to run on Snapdragon 865

Asus has confirmed that it will launch its latest flagship Zenfone 7 smartphone on 26 August via YouTube.

Asus’ Zenfone 6 was one of the most exciting smartphones to launch in 2019 as it offered top-notch specs and included an innovative camera at midrange prices. It appears that its successor will use the same flip-camera system to take selfies with the rear camera module. While we still don’t know what cameras Asus will include on the device, but we don’t doubt that the Zenfone 7 could be crowned this year’s selfie king.

The Zenfone 6 featured a unique flip-camera module.

Specs-wise, we expect the Zenfone 7 to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset mated with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The fact that it is set to come with 5G connectivity means that Asus’ latest phone is ready for the next generation network.

The headphone jack continues to be a rarity in smartphones these days, but just like the Zenfone 6, Asus’ latest flagship device could come with one though this is not yet confirmed. Based on wireless certification documents, it looks like the Zenfone 7 will support microSD cards to expand its onboard storage.

It is also speculated that the Zenfone 7 will come with a 5,000mAh battery with support for up to 30W fast charging.

Asus hinted that it would be launching a new Zenfone 7 ‘series’, that denotes the regular Zenfone 7 may be joined by a Pro variant. That being said, there are currently no details surrounding a potential Zenfone 7 Pro, but we certainly hope Asus will reveal more information during the official launch happening at 2 pm on 26 August.

It is still not clear if Asus will introduce the Zenfone 7 in Malaysia as the company stopped introducing Zenfone models in our market. Even the much acclaimed Zenfone 6 didn’t even make it to Malaysian stores last year. So far, Asus has focused its efforts on promoting its ROG gaming smartphones with the latest being the ROG Phone 3.
