iQoo to launch BMW edition soon, expected to run on Snapdragon 865

Vivo’s sub-brand, iQoo recently was confirmed as an official partner of BMW M Motorsport for the 2020 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) season. In a Weibo post dated 12 August, the phone maker announced it will be launching a special BMW edition of its iQoo 5 series on 17 August.

At the moment there is no official name of this device but unofficially, let’s call it the iQoo 5 BMW edition. Based on the teaser image shared in the post, the special edition phone sports all-black back with what appears to be a kevlar design. It is not clear if it will be made of carbon fibre, a nod to the high density and lightweight material used on race cars.

We can also see there are three cameras housed in a vertically aligned array in the top-left corner. While it is no word as to what cameras are included on the device, the third camera on the bottom resembles a periscope zoom lens. To the right of the cameras is a LED flash. There is also a bit of text on that reads “Fascination Meets Innovation”.

The only other things we can tell from the image is that the power and volume rocker sit on the right side of the phone and there seems to be blue accents on the left and right edges of the phone. It is hard to tell if whether it is just a design effect on the poster to match the BMW car’s headlights.

While there are very little details about this mysterious BMW edition of the iQoo 5, we do know that the regular edition of the device comes boasts flagship-level specs. It is said to come powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset and features a 120Hz AMOLED screen. In addition, the battery supports 120W fast charging that is claimed to recharge the device to 100% in just 15 minutes.
