It is back to double-digit again as Malaysia records 20 new COVID-19 cases today. This brings the total number of positive cases to 9,149. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 125.
The Ministry of Health has reported 7 new recoveries and a total of 8,828 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 96.49% while the mortality rate is 1.37%.
There are now 196 active cases remaining which are currently receiving treatment. 4 patients are in ICU with one requiring respiratory support.
Out of the 20 new cases reported today, 13 are local while 7 cases are imported. The imported cases include 3 Malaysians returning from Lebanon and 1 Malaysian each returning from Yemen, Indonesia and Taiwan. There’s also one foreigner that arrived from France.
In terms of local cases, Kedah has reported 12 new local cases today. This includes 10 from the Tawar cluster in Baling Kedah, 1 Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) case and 1 case from a newly identified Muda cluster. There’s one case in Penang which is also from the Tawar cluster.
The Ministry of Health has updated that 5 out of the 11 new cases from the Tawar cluster are medical staff and a patient that was in close contact with the first case. The Tawar cluster currently has a total of 21 positive cases with 1 patient in ICU.
