COVID-19: New cases jump to 25 today, 12 from Sivagangga cluster

Malaysia has recorded 25 new cases today which brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 9,063. There are no new deaths today and the death toll remains at 125.

The Ministry of Health has reported 15 new recoveries and a total of 8,728 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 96.30% while the mortality rate is 1.38%.

The number of active cases remaining has risen to 210, and all are currently isolated and receiving treatment. Two patients are in ICU and one of them requires respiratory support.

Out of the 25 new cases reported today, 9 are imported while 16 are transmitted locally. The imported cases include 4 Malaysians returning from the Philippines and individual Malaysians returning from Yemen, Australia, Turkey and UAE. There’s one foreigner arriving from Djibouti.

The 16 new local cases include 10 cases in Perlis, 2 cases in Perak and 1 case each in Kedah, Johor, Pulau Pinang and Kuala Lumpur. According to the Ministry of Health, all new cases reported today in Perlis, Kedah and Pulau Pinang are from the Sivagangga cluster.

The Sivagangga cluster currently has a total of 43 positive cases. A total of 3,246 individuals have been tested and 2,320 tests have returned negative. 883 individuals are still waiting for results.
