Malaysia has reported a hike in new COVID-19 cases with 21 new infections reported today. This brings the total number of positive cases to 9,023. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported today and the death toll remains at 125.
The Ministry of Health has reported 18 new recoveries and a total of 8,702 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 96.44% while the mortality rate is 1.39%.
There are currently 196 active cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. 2 patients are in ICU and none require respiratory support.
Out of the 21 new cases reported today, 15 are imported while 6 are transmitted locally. All cases reported today are Malaysians.
The imported cases consists of 12 people returning from Yemen and 1 case each returning from Papua New Guinea, Ivory Coast and the United Kingdom.
The 6 local cases comprise of 3 new cases from the Sivagangga cluster in Kedah, 2 in Sabah and 1 in Johor. The cases in Sabah and Johor were detected during hospital referral and pre-surgery screening.
