Malaysian drone pilot captures the beauty of traffic jams on the eve of Aidiladha

Hari Raya Aidiladha is one of the major celebrations for the Muslim community, and this year it’s probably even more special than usual. This is the first time since the Movement Control Order was enacted that Malaysians are allowed to balik kampung during a festive season.

Naturally, that means that the roads will be clogged up which is generally bad news…unless you’re drone photographer Siva Kumar. For him, this was an opportunity to grab some cool shots with his drone.

According to Siva Kumar, the photos he took were at 4am this morning of the 22km standstill traffic jam that led all the way to the Genting Sempah tunnel.

Personally, this sight scares me. We’ve steadily seen the positive COVID-19 cases rise since the introduction of the RMCO, and to see so many balik kampung for this is still quite jarring to me. Of course, I understand the need and desire to see family and get some semblance of normalcy after some of the hardest months the world has seen but it’s still a little terrifying.

I guess the only thing left to say is that I hope everyone keeps the SOPs in mind and practice social distancing even during these times. We’ve finally gotten our numbers down, but if they go back up to over 100, the government will bring back the Movement Control Order and I don’t think any of us want that to happen.

Stay safe, peeps.
