COVID-19: New cases drop to 8 today, 5 are local transmissions

The number of new cases in Malaysia have declined today with 8 new cases reported. This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections to 8,964. Fortunately, there are no new deaths and the death toll remains at 124.

The Ministry of Health has recorded 5 new recoveries and a total of 8,617 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 96.13% and the mortality rate is at 1.38%.

There are currently 223 active cases remaining which are currently isolated and receiving treatment. 3 patients are in ICU and there’s a case that require respiratory support.

Out of the 8 cases today, 3 are imported and 5 are transmitted locally. The 3 imported cases consists of 2 Malaysians returning from Kazakhstan and the Philippines respectively, and 1 foreigner arriving from Indonesia.

In terms of local cases, there are 3 new cases in Sabah, and 1 case each in Johor and Kuala Lumpur. All 5 local cases are Malaysians and are detected through hospital screenings.
