Leak: Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 tablets to feature 120Hz display, improved S Pen and Snapdragon 865+ chip

There has been a lot of anticipating building up for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab S7 series flagship tablets. German site WinFuture, gave us a detailed look at the full specs of the two new Samsung tablets that are expected to be part of Samsung’s Unpacked event on 5 August.

Samsung seems to be taking a page out from Apple’s playbook, as they are offering two models: the Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+, each uses different screens. Both of them will feature larger displays than last year’s Galaxy Tab S6 which featured a 10.5” display.

As the name implies, the S7+ is the larger tablet with a 12.4” AMOLED (2800 x 1752 pixel resolution) panel that is stated to offer 420nits brightness. It will also feature an in-display fingerprint reader. The smaller S7 will feature an 11” LTPS LCD (2560 x 1600 pixel resolution) and is brighter at 500nits. This model will utilise a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The two new tablets are said to be the first Samsung tablets to feature a high refresh rate of 120Hz.

We can also expect to see an improved S Pen stylus that is speculated offer similar features like the upcoming Galaxy Note 20. They are speculated to have a latency of only nine milliseconds, a fast enough response that it is said to be close to the experience of writing with a real pen. In the WinFuture story, the S Pen is also said to gain air gestures too though it doesn’t elaborate whether there will be any new gestures.

Both tablets are said to run on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset, making them among the first tablets to use the chip. It is said that it will come with at least 6GB of high-speed LPDDR5X RAM and at least 128GB of internal flash memory. There will also be 5G ready versions of the tablets which are said to come with 256GB of storage (expandable via a microSD card slot) and more RAM too.

For the full spec list, see the table below.

The S7 is speculated to hold a 7,040mAh battery while the larger S7+ is said to have a capacity of 10,090mAh. They are both slated to support 45W fast charging via USB-C though the tablets will only come with a 15W charger in the box.

Coming down to weight and build, the S7 is expected to measuring 5.7mm thick and weighing 495g. Meanwhile, the S7+ measures at 6.34mm thick and weigh in at 590g. Both are said to come in three colours: Mystic Bronze, Mystic Silver and Mystic Black.

Both tablets will have dual camera arrays on the rear with a 13MP main camera capable of shooting 4K videos at 30fps. It will be supported by a 5MP ultra-wide camera. There will also be an 8MP selfie camera on the front.

Samsung is definitely not hiding the fact that the new Galaxy Tab S7 models are meant to go toe-to-toe with Apple’s iPad Pro. This is evident by a new keyboard cover that comes with a built-in trackpad that turns the tablet into a small laptop. This interface also works with Samsung’s DeX mode that simulates a desktop work environment.

To help with productivity, the tablets are said to come with an upgraded Samsung Notes app and will also feature integration with Microsoft’s OneNote and Outlook. In addition, the two tablets feature four AKG tuned speakers that also come with Dolby Atmos support for better surround sound.

Currently, there is no information on the pricing and availability of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 tablets. But as we mentioned earlier in the article, we can expect to learn more details during the upcoming Samsung Unpacked event.
