70mai A800: Xiaomi’s crowdfunded dash cam gets 100% funding in just 20 minutes

If you haven’t heard of the name 70mai before, the company is a Mi ecosystem company that focuses on smart car electronics—your dash cams, in-car chargers, and so on. Recently, they announced their latest dash cam model: the 70mai A800 dash cam.

Capable of 4K resolution video, the A800 uses Sony’s IMX415 CMOS image sensor and has a 140-degree field of view. There’s also something called 3D DNR (Dynamic Noise Reduction), technology which automatically reduces image noise and makes exposure adjustments to produce better low-light recordings.

Up to two cameras are actually included in the package: the main unit, which sits at the windscreen and features a 3″ HD display, and a rear-facing camera. Both cameras can record at a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. Users can also use the main display to view the rear camera in real-time.

Additionally, the 70mai A800 is also equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistant System). This technology means the dash cam goes beyond its traditional function, warning drivers with lane-departure and forward collision notifications in the name of safety.

When in “Parking Mode”, the dash cam also turns on automatically. If/when collision or impact is detected, the A800 activates and begins recording rear and front cameras. However, this mode requires you to purchase an optional kit to give the dash cam access to your car’s power source—I’m also guessing that this has a slight effect on your car’s 12V battery.

Other notable features include built-in GPS and local storage via a microSD card (up to 128GB), which you can access via WiFi Direct—no internet connection required. If you want real-time access to the feed on a larger screen, you can view—and control—the dashcam with a connected smartphone.

Pre-orders are now open, with pricing starting at USD149 (~RM632), although that only includes the front-facing dash cam. For the full package (front+rear units), retail pricing is set at USD179 (~RM759).

The pre-orders are available via crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, and the device is clearly popular—the A800 attained 100 percent funding in just 20 minutes. 31 days remain for the crowdfunding campaign, so we do expect to see the 70mai A800 officially released sometime soon.
