Xiaomi has launched its next-generation Mijia Projector 2 Pro in China for CNY 4,599 (about RM2,795). The projector is expected to ship from 29 July onwards and is currently open for pre-order for customers in China. Xiaomi said it will give a free Xiaomi LED table lamp to pre-order customers.
The compact Mijia Projector 2 Pro is said to weigh 3.7kg and measures at 215 x 201 x 143 mm.
According to the details listed on Xiaomi’s Weibo account, the Mijia Projector 2 Pro comes with 4-channel Luminus LED light source that offers a maximum brightness of 1,300 ANSI Lumens. Other than that its colour gamut is ≥100% Rec709 and it supports HDR10+ decoding.
The Mijia Projector 2 Pro has a throw ratio of 1.1:1 and is stated to cast Full HD quality images and videos to a maximum size of 200”. However, the company recommends users cast between 60” to 120” for the best image quality. At a distance of 3m from the wall, the projector is able to cast a 120” image.
The projector is said to have two focus modes with TOF Non-Sensing Focus and Camera Focus. Using its six-axis spiral instrument, the device is said to be able to automatically adjust its focus to any surface or wall. An automatic keystone correction system ensures that the screen stays rectangular at all times.
Powering the Mijia Projector 2 Pro is a 12nm Amlogic T972 chip, that is claimed to provide a 63% increase in performance over the previous generation chip. It is accompanied by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of eMMC storage. Although it outputs video content at Full HD, it is still able to read and decode 4K and 8K videos.
If you don’t have dedicated speakers, you can use the project standalone with its two built-in 10W speakers. It also supports Xiaomi’s Smart Voice Assistant so you can control the projector and other smart home appliances with your voice.
Based on a product demonstration video by Xiaomi, it seems the projector is able to connect with your other smart home appliances within the Mijia ecosystem. In the video, it showed a user being alerted by a picture-in-picture image of a delivery person at the door taken by what we assume is a Mijia Smart Video Doorbell.
You get plenty of connectivity options on the projector with two HDMI ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an audio jack, Ethernet port and a SPDIF port for transmitting high-quality digital audio.
There is also support for different projection methods such as Miracast, DLNA and Airplay for photos, videos. You can even cast and play games from your smartphone on the projector. In terms of software, the projector comes with Xiaomi’s proprietary PatchWall UI, that is also found on Xiaomi Smart TVs and it can also be connected with smart home devices.
Currently, the Mijia Projector 2 Pro but we hopefully will see a global version of the project sometime in the future.
Earlier this year, Xiaomi introduced the Mi Smart Compact Projector for the Malaysian market at RM1,899.
