Samsung Galaxy Z Flip now available with 5G, comes in Note 20 colours

Weeks before Samsung announces the new Galaxy Note 20 series, the Korean smartphone maker has introduced its updated Galaxy Z Flip which comes with 5G support. The 5G foldable smartphone shares the same design but it gets upgraded with Qualcomm’s newest processor that’s currently powering the ROG Phone 3.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G brings the speed of 5G without adding addition bulk. Based on the spec-sheet, the 5G variant is 17.4mm thick when folded while the LTE version is slightly thinner at 17.3mm. However, both retains the same weight at 183g.

In terms of connectivity, the Z Flip 5G supports Sub-6 5G in both NSA and SA architecture as well as 802.11ax WiFi 6. The device also has one physical nano-SIM slot along with eSIM support.

The rest of the phone remains unchanged with a flexible 6.7″ Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display that comes with a punch-hole that houses a 10MP selfie camera. On the cover, you also get a tiny 1.1″ Super AMOLED screen for notification and it can be used for selfies. Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 865+ processor and it still comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

For taking pictures, it has a dual-camera setup with a 12MP main camera with OIS and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter. It can support 4K UHD video recording up to 60fps as well as 960fps slow-mo in 720p resolution. Powering the flip phone is still a rather small 3,300mAh battery and it supports fast-charging (likely 15W) via USB-C as well as wireless charging.

In terms of colours, the 5G version comes in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Grey, which is similar to the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 series. According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G will be released in selected markets starting from 7th August 2020. As reported by The Verge, the Galaxy Z Flip is priced at USD 1,449.99 (about RM6,378) which is USD 70 (about RM300) more than the LTE version. In Malaysia, the Galaxy Z Flip LTE version is priced at RM5,888.
