Samsung Galaxy Note 20’s flat screen is a downgrade from the S20

After revealing the full specs of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, serial leakster Roland Quandt has dropped more details for the more affordable Samsung Galaxy Note 20. As shared recently by Evan Blass, the smaller Note 20 will feature a flat display. While this is good news for quite a number of Galaxy Note fans, turns out Samsung has made some questionable sacrifices on the display.

As published on WinFuture.de, the Note 20 will come with a 6.7″ screen which is listed as Super AMOLED instead of “Dynamic AMOLED”. Unlike the current Samsung Galaxy S20 series, the Note 20 pushes a lower Full HD+ resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. As a comparison, last year’s Galaxy Note 10 uses a smaller 6.3″ Dynamic AMOLED display with dual-curved edges and it also pushes a Full HD+ resolution. For the bigger Note 20 Ultra, it gets a larger 6.9″ dual-curved screen that pushes a Quad HD+ resolution and a higher 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the European version still runs on an Exynos 990 processor and it comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Similar to last year, there’s no microSD card expansion slot for the Note 20 and it is only offered on the more expensive Note 20 Ultra.

In the camera department, the Note 20’s triple-camera setup is a notch below the Ultra model. It gets a 12MP main camera, a 64MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter. With the cameras combined, the Note 20 is capable of doing 30x space zoom.

Similar to the Note 20 Ultra, the Note 20 gets a 10MP auto-focus selfie camera that sits in a tiny punch-hole on the screen. Powering the device is a 4,300mAh battery, which is a similar capacity as the Note 10+ and it also supports fast charging via USB-C along with wireless charging.

The S Pen looks similar to its predecessors but it is expected to come with additional tricks including a “laser pointer” feature. However, due to the display, the S Pen latency is higher at 26ms versus 9ms for the Note 20 Ultra. The rest of the features remain unchanged including stereo speakers, IP68 dust and water resistance, WiFi 6, NFC and there’s also support for a wireless Dex.

According to Roland, the Note 20 is also available in both LTE and 5G variant, which is somewhat similar to the current S20 series. In Europe, the Galaxy Note 20 will come in 3 colour options – Mystic Bronze, Mystic Grey and Mystic Green.

The new Samsung Galaxy Note 20 devices will be unveiled on 5th August 2020 at 10pm Malaysian time. Expect pre-orders for the new Note 20 duo to begin in Malaysia shortly after the global launch.
