After Selangor introduced the visitor registration system SELangkah in early May, you would now be asked to make a report regarding the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the premise you check into. However, you aren’t obligated to if you don’t want to.
Once you’ve scanned the SELangkah QR code in the premise you visit, you’ll get a small notification on your screen asking one of the questions below:
While I scanned the QR code using the SELangkah app (Android, iOS), I received a notification asking a question about the ‘premise’. After a few tries, I’ve noticed that they will give you 1 of the 4 random SOP questions to answer. The questions are:
- Are people in front of you using hand sanitiser before entering the premise?
- Are people in front of you wearing face masks correctly (closing both the nose and mouth)?
- Do you agree that masks should be mandatory?
- Do you want to give a ‘thumbs up’ to this premise following SOP?
You can answer the question and say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to these questions, and even be able to not answer the question at all by pressing the ‘x’ button on top. You won’t be penalised for not answering the question, and you’ll still be allowed in.
Three of the questions offer constructive feedback to the premise itself. But one of the questions available—‘Do you agree that masks should be mandatory?’—doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with how the premise handles the SOP, but a matter of the user’s (right or wrong) opinion.
According to The Star, there is also the question “How many people do you see not wearing a mask here?”, which gives people three options to select from: zero, up to four, or more than five people not wearing masks at their location. However, I couldn’t find it myself.
This change followed Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement that the government was thinking of making face masks in public places mandatory. He also added that all family members and community members are frontliners, and they must play an active role to ensure the SOP is being followed.
