COVID-19: Malaysia records 16 new cases, 9 are in Sarawak

Malaysia records 16 new cases today which brings the total number of COVID-19 infections to 8,831. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 123.

The Ministry of Health has reported 4 new recoveries and a total of 8,566 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 97.00% while the mortality rate is 1.39%.

The number of active cases have risen to 142 today and are currently still receiving treatment. 5 patients are in ICU and there’s one case that require respiratory support.

Out of the 16 new cases reported today, there are 8 imported and 8 local cases. The imported cases consist of Malaysians returning from Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia and India. There’s a case involving a permanent resident returning from Indonesia and 3 foreigners from a newly identified Hyde Park ship cluster at Port Klang.

In terms of local cases, there are 7 Malaysians found positive in Sarawak. This includes 3 new cases from the Stutong cluster, 1 new case from Sentosa cluster and 1 case from the newly identified Melbourne PUI cluster. There’s also 1 case from close contact screening of case #8695 and 1 case that was detected during a return to school screening. Meanwhile, there’s also 1 local case involving a foreigner in Kuala Lumpur.
