We’ve heard from Lenovo that a Legion-branded gaming smartphone is set to arrive sooner rather than later, although information on specs has been pretty scarce up till the present. Now, new information obtained by XDA Developers have revealed that the upcoming Lenovo Legion gaming phone is set to arrive with some serious gamer-centric features.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the reported details is the inclusion of a side-mounted pop-up camera—a unique placement that could theoretically give streamers better camera angles. Gaming phone manufacturers have long foregone hole-punch cutouts or notches on gaming phones that can encumber the viewing experience, although this is the first time I’m seeing a pop-up camera on the side of a device.
Putting that interesting tidbit aside, the rest of the leaked details appear to be the 2020 standard flagship gaming setup. You get a Snapdragon 865 SoC, fast UFS 3.0 storage, and a fairly large 5,000mAh battery along with Android 10 out of the box. RAM will start at 6GB, with options starting at 128GB for storage.
The headlining feature—besides the unique placement of the pop-up camera—is the 144Hz refresh rate 6.67″ display at a Full HD+ resolution (just like the ROG Phone 3).
Plus, you also have 90W fast-charging via USB-C, which is frankly staggering. Like many gaming phones, you get a secondary USB-C port that won’t interfere with your gaming ergonomics in landscape mode, and cameras are limited to twin shooters (64MP + 16MP) that are positioned in a way so that your fingers won’t cover them when using the phone in landscape mode.
The phone has already appeared on a JD listing, which reveals that the Lenovo Legion Phone will feature “two-way liquid cooling”, and the phone is expected to launch on the 22nd of July 2020. Pricing is expected to be set from INR50,000 (~RM2,842), which would certainly make the upcoming Legion gaming phone one to keep an eye out for. Unfortunately, we don’t have official word on local pricing and availability at the moment, but be sure to check back on SoyaCincau.com for the latest developments.
