COVID-19: New cases jump to 15, 3 new clusters identified in Malaysia

Malaysia has recorded 15 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 8,779. Unfortunately there’s one new death today and the death toll is now 123. Today’s fatality is a 72-year-old man in Johor that has a history of stroke and chronic high blood pressure.

There are 7 new recoveries today and a total of 8,553 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 97.43% and the mortality rate is 1.40%.

The number of active cases remaining has jump to 103 and they are currently receiving treatment. 2 patients are in ICU and there’s one that require respiratory support.

Out of the 15 new cases today, 11 are local and 4 are imported. The imported cases consists of 2 Malaysians returning from the United Kingdom and 1 foreigner each from Libya and India.

From the 11 local cases, 7 are Malaysians and 4 are foreigners. 6 cases are in Sarawak, followed by 2 cases in Selangor and there’s 1 case each in Johor and Sabah.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are 3 new clusters identified, namely Rumah Kongsi Sepang, a restaurant in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching Jetty. The Ministry has conducted screenings at all three new clusters and there are 2 positive cases detected from each cluster.
