Samsung Galaxy Note 20 will not come with a curved screen

After we’ve seen the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in its full glory, we now get a clearer look at the smaller version, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20. Unlike the last few Note flagship models, it appears that the Note 20 will be fitted with a flat display. This is probably the first flagship Galaxy Note phone in recent times to come without a curved screen, with the exception of the Galaxy Note 10 Lite.

The latest renders were shared by Evan Blass through his Patreon account which provides a 360 look of the smaller Galaxy Note 20. The device gets the same rectangular camera bump as the Note 20 Ultra, however, it lacks a square camera lens. This tells us that it won’t get a periscope telephoto setup and it might probably stick to a traditional 2x optical zoom.

On the front, the Note 20 gets a rather flat screen with no signs of curved edges. You still get a punch-hole and the bezels are still rather thin. The rear appears to retain a 3D glass back and the design of the metal frame reminds us of the Galaxy Note 5 which also has a flat front and a curved back.

The Note 20 is also expected to feature a Quad HD+ AMOLED screen that can push up to 120Hz refresh rate. It isn’t clear if the 120Hz mode will be supported on the highest resolution. For those that prefer a dual-curved display, it is still offered on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Curved displays have always been a standard design feature for Samsung flagship models since the Galaxy S6 edge. Eventually, the curved screen has also made its way to the Galaxy Note 7.

However, there are users that would prefer a flat screen as curved edges don’t seem to offer additional benefits other than to reduce the width of the phone. Samsung has been gradually reducing the curve angle for its recent models and on the Galaxy S20, the curve is so subtle that it looks almost flat.

Would you prefer a flat-screen or a dual-curve display? Let us know in the comments below. The Galaxy Note 20 series will be launched on the 5th of August 2020 at 10pm. Pre-orders in Malaysia are expected to begin soon after the global announcement.
